After removing the “interim” tag from his title in October, Manager Kirk Gibson, he went about strengthening his team to make some moves in 2011. He, along with new GM Kevin Towers, are determined to put together an aggressive strike throwing team.
Enter free agent closer J.J. Putz, David Hernandez and Kam Mickolio. Also adding to the roster are THP Armando Galarraga, LF/1B Xavier Nady, INF Geoff BLumm, C Henry Blanco, INF Willie Bloomquist and RHP Aaron Heilman.
The whole idea of bringing in talent was for the players to have to “win” their jobs. "It's going to be very competitive… which is something we are trying to create here, an atmosphere where you have to earn and win jobs come spring training,” GM Kevin Towers said recently.
Look for THP Curt Schilling, the co-MVP of the 2001 World Series to be inducted into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame in March 2011.

Past seasons
The Diamondbacks began the 2010 season with an 11-12 record and things got worse before they got any better. In June, the team went 11-16 but had a highlight when RHP Edwin Jackson threw only the 2nd no-hitter in franchise history. In July the team finally sacked Manager A.J. Hinch and GM Josh Byrnes and promoted Kirk Gibson to the Manager position.
The Diamondbacks started the 2007 season with a uniform redesign, which has dropped the traditional Arizona colors, replacing them with a reddish color known as "sedona red" - causing mixed reviews among the fans. There are other changes for '07 as well - most notably leftfielder Luis Gonzales leaving the team to play for rival team LA Dodgers. In spite of the changes, this is definitely a team not to miss, achieving unprecedented success, winning a World Championship in their fourth season - and as of early August, they hold the second best record in the National League.
